The vision of Christine Dadda, Madada Mogador is a unique boutique hotel situated in Essaouira, Morocco. Nestled in the 16th Century ramparts of ancient Mogador, the district was granted UNESCO World Heritage status in 2001. Madada Mogador overlooks the blue Atlantic Ocean, and with its entrance in the medina the property exudes historic character, while only a few metres from the beach. Formerly the house of Jewish merchants, the original building dates to the 1800’s. Purchased in 2000, the Madada underwent a 4 year renovation, carefully employing traditional techniques and materials to reimagine the building, mixing traditional knowledge and contemporary design. Today Madada Mogador offers guests 9 rooms and suites with a resolutely modern look, though rooted in tradition and rich history.
The Assala Standard Room fuses contemporary architecture with natural and warm tones. Located on the 1st floor at the patio level, the Assala overlooks the twisting alleyways of the ancient Medina. The refined Madada Superior room which opens onto the ramparts of Essaouira and its old fishing port is located on the 1st floor, this comfortable suite echoes the natural colours of the local terrain. Blending tradition and modernity, the Sabra bedroom is decorated in shades of red, recalling the vegetable dyed silk fabric hand woven in the local souks. Located on the patio level, the Sabra offers a view of the ramparts of Essaouira and its many winding alleyways. Named for the Persian ‘Padichah’, meaning sovereign, the Pacha room will not disappoint. Located on the ground floor on a large terrace facing the ocean, with privacy guaranteed thanks to the tinted windows Pacha exudes a refined and comfortable atmosphere with its fabulous views over the Atlantic ocean. Taking its name from the Moroccan princess, the Arab-Andalusian architecture of the Salma Ocean View Room represents the diversity of Morocco. Located on a large terrace, accessed from the side, the Salma is all about gentle comfort. A large window offers a sublime view over the bay of Essaouira. The Mogador Ocean View Suite sits on the edge of the ramparts. The bedroom opens onto a private balcony overlooking the beaches, fortified walls, and the port of Essaouira. Decorated in a colonial style, Mogador enjoys a spacious layout. With a ceiling high of more than 6 metres, the sense of space is phenomenal. The Ramparts Loft Side Suite is a large 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom suite is perfect for 2 to 4 guests. An elegant and modern loft style apartment with an incredible sense of space thanks to its ceiling height of over 6 metres. It comprises 1 twin or double bedroom, and a double bed on the mezzanine which overlooks the living room and its fireplace. The Cherifa has a large private terrace overlooking the harbour and historic ramparts of Essaouira. Hidden away on the terrace, guests can relax on the large sofa, enjoying the majestic view and cool see breeze. A fireplace and cozy living room provide comfort year round - Cherifa offers the perfect mix of indoors and outdoor living for your stay in Essaouira. The latest addition to the Madada collection, the Cabana room floats high above the Medina and the Bay of Essaouira. Located on the second terrace, the Cabana features an exceptional 180 degree view of the Atlantic ocean. This luxurious white wooden cabin is the ultimate romantic hideout where guests can relax and enjoy the beautiful views of Essaouira from the terrace.
Formerly a carob warehouse where the king’s traders stored their goods in order to export them to Europe, the restaurant La Table is steeped in history and offers specialities of fish with a menu full of flavours of the Ocean and Morocco. Under magnificent stone arches, chef prepare fresh dishes from the Moroccan coasts. Fish and crustaceans arrive the same day, highlighting the freshness of the seafood.
The chic bazaar of Madada is called the Comptoir and this unique place reminds how formerly Essaouira was an old trading port nicknamed “port of Timbuktu” for its trade with Senegal and Mali. Here visitors can find a selection of pointed objects and furniture often created exclusively to pay tribute to Moroccan and African crafts. Crockery with graphic patterns, Algerian carpets, braided rush mats, Scandinavian armchairs dressed in kilim give the impression of travel and luxury.
Guests enjoy the unique location, situated almost between land and sea, surrounded by the history of the old town, with the relaxation of sea views and the sandy beach. The Madada Mogador has a timeless quality, and with exceptional comfort, strong attention to detail, and dedicated service, this design-led boutique makes for a unique stay in this enchanting city.
