Offering a definite departure from the typical classic historic Umbrian style, the contemporary décor of the sleek modern Dal Moro Gallery Hotel which is located just below the medieval hill town of Assisi could be described as refreshing.  The property is located in the town of Santa Maria Degli Angeli around 3 miles from Assisi and just 50m from the majestic basilica famous for housing the Porziuncola chapel where St Francis founded his order.

The hotel was original conceived as a gallery space and the cosmopolitan feeling of the reception, restaurant and many of the guest rooms is a refreshing change from the quaint historic charm that pervades through typical Umbrian properties. The lobby area is flooded with light from the glass-fronted entry with groupings of sophisticated black and red leather sofas and armchairs. The ground floor and terrace dining room continues this sleek urban aesthetic with the terrace overlooking the internal courtyard and plunge pool and with the basilica dome overhead. The clean lines and designer touches create a contemporary style without becoming sterile.

The staff offer a personal yet discrete service making every guest feel individually welcome. The front desk can arrange cookery lessons or massage treatments for guests. There are also bikes for rent.

The contemporary décor of the public areas continues through the deluxe and art design rooms – moulded plastic, chrome and leather create minimalistic harmony, bold wall murals draw the eye and frosted glass separates the bedrooms and the bathrooms giving a distinct sense of space in both. Many of the slightly older comfort and family rooms have private balconies and views. The deluxe rooms are the crowning glory though – purely for how on trend they are. All rooms are fully soundproofed and well equipped.

The hotel restaurant offers excellent fine dining elegance with dishes inspired by seasonal and local ingredients as well as fish and seafood from outside of Umbria. The handmade pasta is a particularly notable dish. The wine list is extensive to match the menu options.
