Situated in a wonderful location in the hilltop village of Castelmola, the family run Hotel Villa Sonia could be described as a balcony to Mount Etna.  Nothing interrupts the view from the terraces with a panorama over the lower slopes and all the way up to the summit.  Just a short uphill walk is the main street of Castelmola with shops, bars and restaurants.

The charming property is welcoming and almost a home from home. The 44 rooms and common spaces are filled with antique furniture and unusual artefacts. All of the guest rooms are comfortable and well equipped and some even offer views out towards Mount Etna. Standard rooms offer French balconies, superior rooms offer full balconies and suites offer indoor jacuzzi and large balconies. Some rooms can interconnect for families.

Villa Sonia is built into the hillside on a number of terraces – all offering unhindered views to Mount Etna. With the volcano as a backdrop, the outdoor swimming pool is spectacular. The poolside bar offers drinks, snacks and lunches. There are occasional buffets hosted by the family that owns the property by the pool or on the covered terrace. With local music and fantastic food this is always a memorable event.

As a result of the passion of the family that owns Villa Sonia concerning good Italian and Sicilian wines, there is the “Enonteca” wine store such that guests can savour the best of these wines. The lounges and reading areas throughout the hotel are incredibly comfortable and the perfect spot to while a way a few hours with a good book.

Overall, the location is spectacular, the views from the property are spectacular (binoculars should be remember to best take advantage of these views) and the hotel is a comfortable base from which to explore this stunning part of Sicily.
