    NOTES

  • Just a short distance from the superb beaches of Salento, the Masseria Fontanelle truly offers a space that embraces the slower pace of life.  It’s an oasis of peace that allows reconnection with life and nature.  Initially built as a convent between 1600 and 1800 the restoration into the hotel of today has been sympathetic and has kept the original bones of the property.
Just outside of the property, the thriving greenery of the Litorale di Ugento Natural Park contains magnificent pinewoods and a white sand paradise beach.  No wonder it’s knows as the Maldives of Salento – the seas are crystal clear and marvellous shades of turquoise and the beaches are fine golden sand.

To ensure maximum comfort and relaxation, the rooms are for 2 people with the exception of the 3 junior suites which have a second single bedroom for a third person.  The property only accepts children over the age of 12.  Rooms display echoes of the ancient convent without compromise on modern comfort. Furnishings are minimal and well cared for with olive wood details that pay tribute to the lands of Salento.

The ”Le Serre” Restaurant overlooks the courtyard with it’s manicured gardens and the atmosphere is comfortable and authentic.  The breakfast buffet is rich with local products, typical pastries both sweet and savoury and great Continental classics.  For dinner, the space is transformed to offer candlelit dinners full of typical Puglian cuisine with a variety of local flavours.  The menu changes seasonally and the accompaniments include superb local wines from the region.

The new infinity bio-pool and the adjacent whirlpool both offer superb views out over the local countryside to the coast and on to the Ionian sea.  It’s an ideal spot to relax on days where the short journey to the beach feels too taxing.  In the late afternoon, the Apulian Bar (complete with speciality local gins) is the perfect spot from which to watch the glorious sunset.

The Sanctuarium Spa is a magical place built in the large natural cave that once served as the water cistern for the convent is the ultimate relaxation space. Within is a Turkish bath, sauna, chromatheraphy showers, indoor heated pool and an outdoor spa pool with hydromassage. The usual facial and body treatments and massages are also offered.

As well as the outdoor cinema complete with comfortable loungers and fresh evening breezes whilst watching the latest blockbuster, the property can also arrange cookery lessons, cheesemaking, and wine tastings. The Pizzica evenings are full of local music and dance.
