  • Sat above Merano, the family run Miramonti Hotel has truly jaw-dropping views and offers amazing service throughout. Originally opened in 1932 with just 3 guest rooms, the hotel soon found a home in the Michelin guide due to its unique scenic location.  Fast forward to the present day and the property is now a 5* 43-room hotel with panoramic views over Merano and the surrounding countryside.

It’s not far from Hafling where Roger Moore was pursued by the bad guys on skis in The Spy Who Loved Me and to this day, the property continues to nod to this association with James Bond film nights each Sunday in the snug cinema area. The hotel also honours its history as a tea house with fireside afternoon tea, coffee and cakes which is music to the ears of hikers, skiers, spa visitors and hotel guests alike.

Rooms are spread over the original guest house or the newly built owner’s house. Refurbished rooms in the guest house have comfortable beds and some have special added extras such as a fireplace or a tiny in-room sauna. All have stunning views through the grand windows. Owner’s house rooms have walls made of spruce, glass walled bathrooms and are furnished in a modern interpretation of Scandi-chic with an Italian accent. The icing on the cake rooms-wise the the Sky House which offers a sleeping area on the lower level and an open plan living area on the upper level with magnificent views of the Meraner-Berge.

There are no less than 3 restaurants on site – the Panorama where the philosophy is around slow food making use of nature’s gifts, Klassik where lovers of vegetarian and vegan cuisine as well as carnivores will find excellent choices on the daily-changing menu and the Miramonti Stube where the traditions of the 19th Century provide the framework for authentic Tyrolean cuisine. The MM Bar and Terrace offer a perfect spot for pre-dinner cocktails or after-dinner aperetifs to watch the sun set or simply gaze at the stars.

The Miramonti Spa is a carefully thought out space that pays homage to the surroundings. Some of the ancient bedrock of the mountains has been transformed into the floors and water outlets. There is a sauna, steam bath, a forest sauna on stilts, treatment rooms and a large relaxation area. As well as the fully equipped gym, there is also a yoga pavilion above the main building which offers outstanding mountain views. The highlight of the wellness offering here is the infinity swimming pool which extends out into the landscape and allows the views between the sky and the water to merge completely. Filled with heated saltwater to 32C it’s a healing place. There is also a Japanese Onsen pool above the main house open all year that is heated to 40C.

Overall, the Miramonti Hotal has been described as an oasis of total tranquillity.
