Understated and elegant, the Belle Epoque building that is the Hotel Grand Majestic is fronted by immaculately maintained gardens and directly on the shore of Lake Maggiore. Thanks to it’s location on a small promontory, the property has unobstructed views out over the lake.  

From the gardens there are views over the Borromean islands (Lake Maggiore’s main attraction) and regular public boats leave from the jetty 10 minutes walk from the hotel.  Isola Bella is also just a short walk from the property.  This opulent palazzo has shell-encrusted grottos and spectacular gardens complete with white peacocks, statues and fountains.  Nearby Villa Taranto (a beautiful 40 acre botanical garden) is home to plant species from the world over including Japanese maples, Amazonian water lillies and dahlias.

Although the 80 rooms here may not be the most modern, they are all furnished to a high standard with large shuttered windows. Higher grade rooms and suites offer lake views. Topping the building on the 6th floor is a selection of split level junior suites which each have private terraces and space for families.

A breakfast buffet is served each morning in Sala Rossini. The other restaurants are La Beola with its floor to ceiling windows with lake views which offers traditional Italian dishes for lunch and dinner (gentlemen should wear long trousers for dinner) and during the summer months Il Portico provides the opportunity for al-fresco dining on the terrace. The La Terraza Bar offers a full drinks and cocktail menu and also has a panoramic lake-view terrace.

The Grand Majestic has excellent facilities including a lakeside tennis court. The heated indoor pool offers sliding doors that open onto the gardens overlooking Lake Maggiore. There is even a small private beach with lake access for swimming. The well equipped fitness room and spa with sauna and treatment rooms complete the full range.

For the ultimate in luxury, the hotel also has a private jetty where boats can moor.
