  • A boutique hotel in Kalkan. One of the “Ten Best Views in the World”, one of the top ten “Most Amazing Hotel Pools”, winner of Conde Nast’s “Most Romantic Hotel in Europe” – these are just some of the accolades heaped on Kalkan’s amazing Hotel Villa Mahal.

Situated in Kalkan’s prime position, on the east side, the exquisite Hotel Villa Mahal has the most breath-taking views over the fabulously picturesque bay. The hotels’ defining feature is its setting, clinging to a hillside with views across the bay to the wooded hillsides and back towards the once Greek harbour town of Kalkan, in turn cloaked by the magnificent Taurus Mountains. It is a truly magical setting..…take every superlative you can think of and add some! On top of that there is stylish, contemporary and comfortable accommodation – all of which capitalises on those views – a totally chilled and relaxed atmosphere ….this, after all is the legendary Hotel Villa Mahal. Total simplicity served with superlative surroundings.

Before sun rise the sea is inky blue, as the sun gets higher it shimmers and sparkles; from high swimmers appear to be doll like figures floating on the cerulean sea, a raft invites the swimmers to take a rest, the trial left by the odd speedboat creates an artistic white ribbon on the blue canvas and at night as the fiery sun sets the blues suddenly become shades of pink. As you arrive at Hotel Villa Mahal you’ll start your new sea-centred life, everything you do, everywhere you go and every glance will be about the sea. Don’t be surprised to see a turtle in the bay or even a seal clambering onto the shoreline.

The hotel is built into the craggy rocks, steps – plenty of them and you’ll be constantly reminded as the hotel’s personnel wear T-shirts declaring “181 steps to heaven” meander downwards.

At each level hotel rooms – there’s only 13 – are discretely hidden in the natural olive covered hillside. Little white houses with wooden pergolas and red Ottoman style roof tiles each have a private outdoor area, hours can be spent in the comfortable terrace furniture just relaxing and enjoying the surrounds. Each room is completely individual but every room has the full view; there’s no having to stand on a chair or peer around a corner, it’s likely that it will figure on your top ten views for life. Half way down is the triangular infinity pool, exquisitely gorgeous. Further down small private platforms are cut into the cliff side and equipped with sun beds, hammocks, plump cushions and shades, at yet another level down decking is built out over the rocky coastline and from here you can slip into the deep blue waters. If it’s total peace and quiet that restores the equilibrium then you’ll love the “Silent Beach”.

Of course there are plenty of opportunities for water sports but you will not do it in front of the beach club – that would just spoil the peace and tranquillity – you’ll be picked up by a speed boat and whizzed away to another cove. A Balinese style massage area is close to the Silent Beach. The hotel’s beach club and facilities are strictly for use by hotel guests only; a little further along the coastline is the Mahal Beach Club that is open to the general public.

A rich and delicious Turkish breakfast is served in the Panoramic Roof Terrace at one of the higher levels…. it counters the calories! Twice a week this is the venue for the hotels’ special dining nights, there’s Meze Night and Barbecue night. The thatched roof Mahal Beach Club restaurant is the venue for lunches with mouth-watering Mediterranean and Turkish specialities; hot pide direct from the stone oven is always a lunchtime favourite. At night the bathing platforms are transformed into candle-lit dining platforms with elegant glassware, starched napkins and a star-filled night sky.

This is a destination for a honeymoon, a wedding anniversary, a special birthday; it’s a place to retreat, to chill, to unwind; few places in the world can offer such an out of the ordinary experience.

Hotel Villa Mahal is suited to a very particular client; we make no secret of the fact that there are a lot of steps; this is not a resort hotel where high heels are the order of the day, this is “barefoot luxury”, it is casual chic.

If you love the idea of the Hotel Villa Mahal but would prefer the privacy that a luxury villa with private pool will afford then take a look at Villa Su, Villa Gunbatimi and Villa Ruya, these three stunning villas are situated adjacently to the hotel and offer access to the Mahal Beach Club.
