This villa is ideal for lovers of the Cortona arts event of the year, the “Tuscan Sun Festival” as the small hilltop town is only 30 minutes drive away. Anghiari also hosts the Southbank Sinfonia music festival in mid-July every year – the streets and courtyards of Anghiari are taken over by the British orchestra.  Click here to read our blog about the music festival.

Many of the grey stone Tuscan water mills, similar to this one, used to mill not only flour but oil also. Hidden away in the folds of this magnificent colourful landscape they were the great secret to Tuscany’s country diet. Milling flour for ciabatta, many of the mills also made bread daily in their huge wood fired ovens which could be bought by local farm workers as a cheap lunch.  The countryside around medieval Anghiari is truly beautiful – fields of sunflowers, small vineyards, olive groves and hilltop village which are alive with the sounds and scents of a bygone age.
