SWIMMING POOL

5x10m swimming pool with heat retaining summer cover. 

Please let us know prior to departure if you would like the pool closed off as a child proof fence can be erected to ensure child safety. Pool towels are provided in a cupboard by the pool. Depth ranges from 1m - 2.2m. The diving board can be removed if required. The pool is open from mid May to mid September.

The village of Mercatale di Cortona, only 5 km away, has a bank, cash dispenser, post office, small supermarket, internet cafe, butcher, baker, petrol station and even a laundry/dry cleaners as well as a friendly family restaurant, Trattoria da Mimi (with a tennis court that can be rented by the hour). Lake Trasimeno and the town of Tuoro, 16 km, offers sandy beaches, safe swimming and a wide variety of water sports. Umbertide 22 km, Citta di Castello 38 km, Monterchi 48 km, Arezzo 50 km, Gubbio 57 km, Anghiari 58 km, Cortona 23 km, Castiglione del Lago 32 km, Assisi 73 km are all fascinating medieval border towns. Camucia 23 km and Terontola (station) 24 km are excellent for shopping.

This luxury villa in Tuscany is situated deep in the heart of Piero della Francesca country in the Niccone Valley, Fonte Vecchia is a beautifully restored, spacious luxury villa in Tuscany for rent with a dramatic watch tower, lying among gentle hills enjoying views unchanged for centuries.  

Centuries ago, when the church was the significant power in this area, most of the local nobility employed artists to paint frescoes in churches to ensure they were in God’s good graces. Or at least, the prayers of the local clergy.  Piero della Francesca was one such artist and he spent much of his time in this region, taking inspiration from the incredible panorama, the immense blue sky and a landscape painted by God himself.

Decorated in typically Tuscan style with mellow terracotta d’Assisi floors, exposed chestnut beams and thick whitewashed walls it needs no air conditioning and remains cool in the summer and warm in the winter, insulated from the strongest summer sun or harshest winter gale. Furnished with period country furniture, it offers comfortable spacious accommodation ideal for a family looking for a base to expore or just to relax together.

Life in this region is lived al fresco, outdoors, the covered terrace, the loggia, the large linen sun umbrellas and the mature trees give dappled shade and within the 7 acres of olives with glorious views across the hills one can find many places to settle with a picnic. There are fig, greengage, cherry and other fruit trees in the sloping orchard which offer great scrumping opportunities in season. Partake of barbecue lunches, sleep them off then nip into town for a passeggiata with the locals before indulging all over again in one of the many wonderful well priced trattorias and restaurants in the area.
